(More customer reviews)The Dodge Grand Caravan is rated for up to 3500lb towing. However even with a 2000lb load (single alxe trailer with a Yamaha Rhino), the rear end of the Caravan sits very low. So low that going thru drainage dips in the road or up into driveway can cause the hitch bar to scrape the ground. The solution was the Air Lift springs. I installed just the basic springs with no on board compressor. I chose to place the air line valve on the underside of the rear bumper at the corners. With this setup I can easily inflate and deflate the airbags to the pressure required based on the load. Now the van always sits level with the trailer fully loaded... no more scraping, no more sagging rear bumper. The springs did not adversely affect the van's ride quality, if anything there is now much less body roll (with or without a heavy load).
I was able to complete the installation in about 5 hours with no help and I am not auto saavy. Removing the existing jounce bumpers from the van was probably most troublesome (need large channelock pliers - about 3.5" jaw opening). Other than that, the most time consuming was drill the 8 holes in the frame/alxe brackets needed to mount the spring (one suggestion - have extra drill bits available as drilling the 8 holes dulled 3 of my bits to the point of being unusable). The only reason I gave it a 4 rating instead of 5 is they should have provided some type of template for drilling the holes rather than having to hold the brackets in place to get the hole alignment. Howeever, I am still extremely happy with the end result.
